If you run a WordPress site, go to plugins and install Matomo Analytics, then enable tracking in the settings. Thank me later.

A paid major downgrade from GA. The software lacks so many basic functions that you would assume a paid tracking software would have. It doesn’t even by default, differentiate between paid and organic traffic. The support is also awful. There’s no live chat, and when emailing them you will 9/10 times get a response that is not helpful, or they will refer you to their community xD

Matomo is far from being usable in production I hope it will save time for those who want to try it. They are proposed as an alternative to Google Analytics but they are not even remotely compared to the steps backwards made by Google with GA4. The documentation is laconic and disorganized, and lacks examples for the most basic cases. Their tag manager just doesn't work. The community is practically non-existent. I wasted 2 weeks trying to get Matomo working and now I have to throw all the work away because there's no way.
